It has been my experience that people tend to seek counseling when they are facing conflicts or adversity that pose a significant challenge to their current expectations and coping strategies. What may have been meaningful and effective at one time, may no longer serve the same purpose. Feelings of depression, anxiety, grief, significant “stress” or a general sense of unfulfillment are quite common when this occurs. Additional factors including substance use, one’s biology and neurochemistry can also contribute to such feelings.
On a deeper level, a crisis can serve as an opportunity to take a closer look at how we relate to ourselves and our larger life. Your distress can serve as a wake up call to:
•Live your life more meaningfully! •Learn alternative ways to restore balance and harmony! •Modify self-defeating attitudes and behaviors!
Together we will collaborate to find practical ways of addressing your current concerns by utilizing your current strengths, identifying helpful external resources and developing new ways of coping. We will also explore the meaning you give to these experiences so that your crisis can be transformed into growth and healing.
